The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want
~ Psalms 23:1
ARTICLE OF INTEREST Dangerous, Friendless…Homeless By Deb CarverOwens If overpasses could talk, how many stories could they tell? They stretch majestically across the lonely night streets. During the daylight hours they see the hustle and bustle of each day's activities. At night, what do they see? Do they see the little spiders building webs on their bracer sections? Do they happen to notice the field mice scurrying up into the cubby holes where the grass meets the cement? Do they pay attention to the people who congregate under it to live? The structure never sleeps. Little could anyone realize how deep a question to ask? Is there a difference between homeless persons and street persons? Most of the populations of cities do not have time to wonder. They never think about the question because it does not pertain to them. These are details that are unimportant to anyone but those who live in this situation. Is there actually a difference? The answer is yes. In most cities there are different levels of living. The poor struggle through with little money and a lot of hard work. The vehicles are not the newest not are there a lot of choices for residence . Their families get by, but just barely. In the middle class, spouses have jobs, cars, and homes that are more or less of their own choosing. These people live in decent housing and for the most part pay their bills with a little left over for emergencies. Then, there is the upper class of people who can, basically, do what they want. However, most people do not know of the other two levels of society that are very real. The first is the homeless. These are the ones who have lost whatever job they might have had and also their living arrangements. They live in shelters and look daily for some type of employment. When they find it, they strive to better themselves by getting into some type of living quarters that are not very expensive so that they can build and grow to better accommodations and lives. This author knows of a woman who procured employment at a restaurant within walking distance from the shelter on the midnight shift (graveyard shift). She worked for four nights sleeping during the day amid children playing and whatever else was going on in the shelter during that time and went to work each night. On the fifth night, she went to her shift and worked as usual. When she got off her shift that morning, she walked to the shelter and was told that she couldn't sleep that day because she would be off that night. She sat in the park with the valuables that she carried for safekeeping and was so tired that she cried to keep herself awake. Knowing that if she went to sleep, she would lose anything of value on her person, she could not think of anything else to do. Her weariness precluded walking to any of the sights around the area as she would have to carry her parcel with her. Finally, the time came that she was able to go back inside. There were chores to do after dinner and then she went in with the single women who showered last to tepid or cold water to take her turn in the partition less showers with stalls that had no doors. The road to get one's life back is certainly not easy; and it is a sad truth that a lot of families are a paycheck away from such circumstances. The second are the "street" people. They have one goal in their minds. That is to get enough money for their next quart or drug buy. They have no place to go and like it that way. There are no responsibilities except to survive another day and that is all the responsibility they want. Life has either beaten them down so far that they don't even try anymore or they have become lazy and have no more ambition than to sit and drink or do drugs. The most important difference between them is that one group really does wish to pull themselves out of their situation while the other doesn't care about anything but themselves. The street people are not necessarily evil; however, most of them are opportunists. Someone may be sleeping on a park bench - between leaving the shelter in the morning and going back in at night - with his or her backpack next to them. If a street person thinks that the sleeper has any medication or money that they can take, they will use this opportunity to steal it. By the same token, if a street person encounters someone that they think is pretty or appealing in some way even if they know this person and have been friends with them, they might grab that homeless person as the opportunity presents itself. Being drunk or high, they never consider the fear of the other person. In normal circumstances, the person would not think of such a thing, however the opportunity presented itself and it didn't matter whether they were behind a building or on the sidewalk of a busy street. The person being accosted might not get help in extracting themselves from such situations because the working people who are running errands or shopping don't want to get involved. Let me be clear. Most of the time the "street", as a rule, don't go around attacking people as they walk down the sidewalk. Experience has taught that they steal from the homeless who are within their grasp. Given the right situation, however, it is imagined that the "street" will use whatever opportunity is open to them to get the money for their smokes, booze,or drugs. It is also to be noted that the homeless have some kind of morality within them. They are just having extremely hard times. However, anything that the "street" wants to do is not thought of as moral or immoral, it is what they want. Therefore, a person walking down the street in the daylight hours could conceivably see a man or woman taking off parts of their clothing due to the fact that they have soiled themselves. Trust me; it is not for the faint of heart. Is there a difference in the difficulty of survival between homeless men and homeless women? Most definitely there is. Women have a harder time than men usually. The women who find themselves in shelters have opportunities to get jobs for themselves and work their way out of the situation, however they have to be careful when they are out walking on the street. It is easier to fall into "the oldest profession" when there doesn't seem to be any hope, so hope must be kept within them. There are ways to do this. 1. They can make sure that in the course of the day, they never travel alone. Making a friend with other women at the shelter is a help. 2. It is hard for a woman to find a job when she has no address. A lot of employers won't hire anyone from a shelter address that they recognize in the area. The men have "morning call" in which construction companies and such come to the shelter to hire workers for the day. There are women who can handle such a circumstance, but some can't. 3. Inside the shelter, there is a locked closet where the women can keep their clothes and such. If they dress before they leave the shelter in clothes worthy of finding employment, they can put in applications as they walk through stores in the area while waiting to go back in the shelter at night. Is there a correlation between any of these groups? It would seem that the middle three classes have the work and the worry and the hardships. Working, poor, and homeless strive to better their situations and make ends meet. It is interesting to note that the upper class and the "street" have not a lot of these worries. This excludes self-made successes. The upper classes can buy what they want or manipulate it from others while the "street" just take what they think they need from others. Either way the highest and lowest sides of the spectrum are the same in generality's ratio. Isn't that an interesting fact?
What If: A Journey Into The Center of Disrupting For Disruption’s Sake What if the American people got tired of all the disruptions in Congress and called for psyche evaluations on every one of the Representatives and Senators as pertains to senility with their positions commensurate on a positive outcome of these examinations or they would all be impeached while the people voted in Congress positions that the people elected could actually get along and accomplish something for this country rather than their own egos. Would the Congress delegates that are in office right now be able to tell the American people what they could and could not do? Is that what is going on now as pertains to Congress disrupting every single thing that the President does? Are those who are disrupting everything actually aware that they are doing more harm than good? or don’t they care anymore? Have they had their own way for so long that they don’t care what we, the people, think? Is there anything we can do about this if it is indeed going on? and what might that something be? What if all of the colleges took attendance of who was participating in protests at their school and if a name was found that was not on the list, the people were shown to the door by policemen? Would all the disrupters that are causing the violence at these rallies be “weeded out”? Would the protestors want to be peaceful as is allowed by the constitution? or would they stick up for the rebel rousers and join in the violence? Once the violence starts, is everyone guilty of such behavior because the supposed peaceful protesters didn’t disclaim the violent ones? Are we the people supposed to stand back and let this go on time after time? or is there anything that we can do about that? And if there is what would it be? What if the news media only reported the truth about stories and not someone’s political views? Is the news media supposed to report what is actually going on? or what they think is happening? Does opinion matter more than facts in this day and age? Would the views of we the people be different is we only heard the truth and saw integrity in our printed and televized media? Is that what is going on today? or are the news reporters so full of themselves that they don’t care how much they are tearing up this country with their unreliable reporting? or is that what is actually going on? What if the courts of this land didn’t overstep their bounds to tell the President what he can and can not do? Is that even what is going on? Why is it legal for these people to tell the President “no” when the safety of this country is in his hands? Is our safety in his hands at all? According to some, he has no jurisdiction over anything. Is this truly the way it is? or are people so aggressive and egotistical that they will not pay attention to what is needed in this country? And they will only serve themselves and what their party wants even to the detriment of this country? What if this country found the definition for “treason” again in its language? Are the people who are leaking information to the media traitors for doing it? And are the media members that print or televize this information just as guilty as the ones who released it? Is there a law that says that those who incite riots and cause continual disruptions are guilty of anything? or is it their right to make such happenstances? Where is the line drawn that the perpetrators of these incidents can step over into real trouble? or when is their actions too much for it to be legal? Does anyone have the right to disrupt so much that they block normal people from their daily activities? Or is the right to protest peaceful also mean that they can do as they please to everyone else? What if we the people took a few moments to contemplate these questions? What answers would we find? Would they enlighten us so that we can peacefully and united run our country as the constitution set it up? or will this country be turned into a socialist country that has very little freedom? Will we let go of our goals in life for advancement and stay where we are financially? or will we have our advancements and growth in the capitalist country that has , at least freedom? These are all food for thought, but what are the answers? Does anyone know of any suggestions that will help our situations? Are there any solutions? I pray that there are good and right solutions to all of these subjects.

Editorial What’s the Matter With Us? By Deb CarverOwens Let’s write an article about something that was heard on the news today. Why don’t we name it, What is the Matter with Us? Should it go something like this? What is the matter with us? Should we let the officials of our country break the law any time they choose. Is there a law that prohibits the upper echelons of law enforcement on Capitol Hill from granting immunity to key witnesses that don’t testify in an investigation? Is it legal to destroy their evidence for them? the computers that have possible evidence on them? What evidence do we have that these law enforcement officials do this? The answer is: they said they did. Does that sound like a confession to you or are they so above the law that they are not worried about anyone calling them to account? These are legitimate questions. Should we ask them or just go on with our daily lives like nothing is going on. When we get up in the morning, do we care that something is going on at the Capitol? Do we think about it at all? What will happen if we don’t get interested in the way our elected officials govern us? Will the people of this country get up one morning to a government that has turned from freedom into a dictatorship? I don’t know the answers to these questions, but what do you think? If you really sit down and think about it, what are the conclusions at which you arrive? Blog me with some of the answers that you come up with. Is it that we are heading for a rude awakening in our very near future or is there a way to circumvent the disastrous results of our current path. What is that path? Some may say that nothing will change while others will be terrified about the changes that they foresee. Which of these are you? what can be done? Maybe there are steps that can be taken to stop a change that we certainly don’t want. What are they? Is there such a thing as a peaceful fall into dictatorship? This country stands and has stood for freedom for a long time. Is it at an end? Will it continue? What are the answers to the questions asked in this article. Maybe if we all put our brains together, we could answer them; but we will all have to do it together. I know, here goes that lovey crap. Well, is it time for us to stand together using that lovey crap to save our country or does it need saving? Think about it.

Experiences in Fishing As seen by Deb CarverOwens INTRODUCTION This small work is a summary of some of my fishing experiences. This book is all in fun, but, if some of the suggestions seem logical to you, please use them. We will be covering subjects from the fundamental baiting process to the sophistication of pulling a hook from various parts of the anatomy. We will also touch on ways to untangle fishing line from rods, reels……and various parts of the anatomy. The chapters that follow will hopefully enlighten and maybe even make you laugh a little. I am no expert, as; I have never been in fishing tournaments or on television. The consultation with a tournament fisherman was most enlightening and I have been fishing quite a few times in my life. Now then, with that out of the way, let's get started with our journey to the lake.
